Read on for inspiration on simple vodka based cocktails which only need three ingredients. If you don’t fancy vodka, then check out our gin options.
You can’t blog about vodka based cocktails without mentioning the espresso martini. Containing neither gin nor vermouth people may argue it is not a true martini but it’s popular nonetheless. You will find many variations on the recipe but this one is incredibly simple and all coffee drinkers should be able to prepare one easily enough without a visit to the shop.
Start by chilling your martini glass, then fill your shaker with ice and add equal parts (usually 30ml) of vodka, kahlua (or other coffee liquor) and espresso (freshly made and hot!). Shake quickly to chill the contents and then strain into your martini glass. If you’ve shaken well you should have a nice foam on top on which to float some coffee beans as a garnish.
Moscow mules are typically served in a copper cup. The copper keeps the content chilled, a tall glass will work if you don’t have metal cups to hand though.
Pour 60ml vodka, 15ml lime juice (freshly squeezed is best) and 10 ml of sugar syrup (learn how to make your own in this blog) into your glass. Stir to combine the liquids and then fill to around two thirds with ice. Top with ginger beer (beer not ale!) and add crushed ice if you wish. Garnish with lime and mint. Place the straw close to the garnish so you can smell it whilst drinking.
This fruity concoction was invented in the 1980s in New York.
Chill your martini glass whilst prepping the drink. Add 60ml vodka, 15ml chambord (or other raspberry liquor) and 45ml pineapple juice to a shaker full of ice. Shake thoroughly and strain into your glass. Garnish with a pineapple wedge.
When it comes to creating three ingredient vodka cocktails it’s important to use items that are of the best quality you can find as there aren’t so many syrups and additives to mask the flavours.
