Three Ingredient Cocktails – Gin

Cocktails don’t have to be complex or require a bar full of bottles to enjoy. Read on for some gin based three ingredient cocktails –

Negroni.

This classic Italian cocktail is bitter and dry. It’s also incredibly simple to assemble.

Simply add equal measures (usually 30ml) of dry gin, campari and sweet vermouth into a rocks glass over ice and stir. Garnish with an orange wedge to balance the bitterness.

Gimlet.

Gimlets have been enjoyed since the 1920s and there are plenty of variations on the recipe. Some believe a ‘real’ gimlet should consist of only gin and lime juice.

For this version you’ll need a cocktail shaker, a hawthorrne strainer & a coupe glass (chilled before use, simply place in fridge ahead of time or fill with ice whilst making the drink).

Fill a cocktail shake with ice and add 45ml dry gin, 30ml lime juice (freshly squeezed will always taste best) and 15ml of sugar syrup (either shop bought or home made is fine. See here on how to make your own). Shake until the shaker is too cold to hold and strain into your chilled glass. Garnish with a wedge of lime on the rim. For an extra hit of lime, zest one into the glass and discard before pouring.

Cosmonaut.

Created by Sasha Petraske this is one for those who love raspberries.

You’ll need a cocktail shaker, bar spoon and strainer and a chilled coupe glass.

To start add 3 bar spoonfuls of raspberry jam to your cocktail shaker (1 teaspoon is roughly equivalent), add 60ml gin and 22.5ml of lemon juice (freshly squeezed if possible). Stir all the ingredients thoroughly until they are well combined and the jam has broken down. Add ice and shake until drink has chilled. Strain into your coupe glass. Garnish with a fresh raspberry.

When it comes to creating three ingredient cocktails it’s important to use items that are of the best quality you can find as there aren’t so many syrups and additives to mask the flavours.
