Merry Mocktails

Four in ten adults in the UK have pledged to cut back on alcohol this festive season so we’ve put together a couple of our favourite mocktails. Yule love them!

First up is a mulled wine substitute. Mocktails which can be thrown into a slow cooker and forgotten about – perfect when there’s presents to wrap, children to stop fighting entertain and dinner to prep! The scent of the spices lingering in the air is guaranteed to help with the festive feels too.

Ingredients: (serves 4, adjust as necessary)

2 small oranges (1 sliced thinly and one juiced)

1 litre of cranberry juice (or pomegranate if you prefer, or a mixture of the two)

2 cinnamon sticks

3 star anise

4 whole cloves

Cranberries – handful of (optional)

Method:

Slice one orange and place in slow cooker along with rest of ingredients and the juice of the second orange, stir to combine. Put on lid and cook on low for 1.5hrs. Done.

Strain (if preferred) and serve in mugs or heatproof glassware, sugar can be added to taste but isn’t usually required.

This can be made and reheated. The spices will infuse the longer it is left and it will be fine in the fridge for 2 or 3 days.

If you like the idea of the warmth but prefer a shorter wait time the Spiced Apple Fizz is definitely worth a try!

Ingredients: (serves 1)

75ml of apple juice

75ml of ginger beer

1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon

Slice of apple to garnish

Method:

Put in a tall glass over ice and stir to combine, add extra cinnamon if required. Garnish with apple and enjoy.

Alternatively if the festive season isn’t the same without fizz then consider switching the prosecco/champagne from your Bellini to ‘Nozeco’ and enjoy your favourite tipple without the hangover the next day!
